Who are you Inside the Game? Dinner Discussion 3

December 4, 2011

Many video games now allow you to be not only not-a-white-dude main character, but also not human.

Are you always the gender and species that you normally are when you start up a new game? (Human, no class–> that’s a Munchkin joke, if you missed it. ‘sOK. I’m the only one I know who really does like that game.) Are you always NOT the human, no class?

How do you decide? What’s important about it? How does it change per which game you’re playing?

Lol, loved the Munchkin joke! I prefer the supermunchkin myself, especially when mixing decks that just shouldn’t, ever, go together. Vampire-ninja anyone?

I’m not a big video gamer, but I did play Fable II to death, and I always played a boy. hmm, why? that’s a three beer conversation.

If I’m playing one of those older, chauvinistic games, where the male character has more stamina/power/classes/etc, I play the male. Boys – you can call it penis envy if you need to.
For more modern day games, I play them all. I sometimes just pick one at random. If one kinds has more body art than another, I am usually tempted to go that route. Orc class, anyone? They got piercings you can only see in bikini mode.

I don’t think anyone needs to be envious of anything. The older games were built that way.

The new ones are more interesting and much better balanced.

You’ll like Fable II, I think. One of the reasons I like it and it’s actually fun to be the “girl” character is that by the end, she’s got a neck like a bull, she’s taller than everyone else in town by a head or more, and she struts because she is SO STRONG. Additionally, Fable made these characters to age, so she’s got white hair and wrinkles, and she’s scarred. I hope I’m that awesome when I get that old.
