What are you reading now?
I love seeing people read in public, out and about with their nose in a book, and I always want to stop and ask them –Hey! Whaddya reading?
I love reading a paperback while walking hither and yon and stumbling into the car stopped at the light, look up, and see the driver smiling and chuckling at me–she’s been there, done that, and I know she wants to know what’s got me so riveted.
My bud reads at the factory’s quality lab cafeteria lunch room. Every day. The incessant chatter and lunchtime bitch and moan sessions do not bother her in the least. Gosh! What is she reading that she can tune all that out?
I’ve seen women Of A Certain Age accompany their husbands to the movies. But while he’s watching it, eyes aglow, she’s got her nose in a book–she’s blind as a bat but she can see those words in the ultra-dim theater. Rlly? What is she reading that is more exciting than the moving picture?
The hubs and I decided we were OK for a second date, when, on the first, we both secretively tried to read under the table–and we were both reading William Gibson. (no, really!) *love!* What are you reading?

Ok- the floor is open to discussion for Friday Chat: What are you reading now?

We see a lot of folks arriving here with the search terms to find illegal pirated free downloads. If you are here for that reason, piss off.
I took Infernal Devices by K. W. Jeter with me to the autoshop for the 2+hour wait on my truck.
I refuse to carry a purse that isn’t big enough to fit at least one book in it (and my Kindle). Right now I’m in the middle of “Mistborn: The Final Empire” and “Red Seas Under Red Skies.”
i do the same thing! Purse MUST be big enough to carry at least one book. It really sucked when I was reading Wise Man’s Fear, because it wouldn’t fit.
I am also involved in the Read Alongs for Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson and Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch.
Plus, I am reading A Game of Thrones by George R R Martin as I try to complete my Challenge of Ice and Fire this year.
Then there is Kiss of Crimson by Lara Adrian, which I am reading to fill in the rest of the time when I’m not reading my weekly doses of the others!
Leaving the house without a book feels weird. I did that once last month and almost bought a new one, just to feel normal.
Rereading Scott Lynch’s Red Seas Under Red Skies for the read-along.
Lonnie for antimatter; Roots, because I never even saw the mini-series, and I inherited a hard-bound copy from my dad years ago (not bed-time reading!); and a non-punny Piers Anthony (yes, he has written serious SF) by the bed for sleepy time.
What’s the Piers Anthony?
I hear you can kill people with a hardbound copy of Roots and a strong up-swing to the head.
I’m reading Player of Games by Iain Banks.
Love your story about how you knew a 2nd date was gonna happen b/c you were both not only sneaking looks at the book under the table, but you were both reading the same author!
long after 2nd date but before we were married, the hubs and I moved in together, and found that between the two of us we owned 4 copies of every Dune book, and duplicates of a lot of Asimovs as well. yup, match made in heaven!
I’m reading a cookbook about sous vide cooking. Apparently I should be having a very awesome b-day gift coming at the end of June…
