Do you match bookmarks to the book? I’m a little weird about that. Sometimes I can’t start the book until I have the right bookmark. Think about it, you’re all ready to read that Lovecraft story but the only bookmark you can find has happy puppies. It throws me off. Now, use the dragon bookmark or maybe the Poe quote, boom! We’re in the mood! I especially like using the Sherlock bookmarks in the Sherlock books. Or the pretty handcrafted paper bookmark in a story about ancient Japan. Friends and family have given me bookmarks, I’ve made my share, plus they make excellent souvenirs too. They are a little like tiny memories every time I open the book.
I know that sounds a little weird. I can’t be the only one who does this. And doesn’t everyone have a favorite one? Mine are the Poe stamp (that I can’t find) and the stitched ones. How about you?

My current book mark is a card from you.
I’m not organized enough. I buy bookmarks all of the time and then place them in books and then I forget about them. If I reread a book, sometimes I find a bookmark I used to love but forgot about it. That’s kinda cool.
Hey, did you stitch those, by the way?
You betcha!
I use a bookmark with a hologram for science fiction. Frillier ones for fantasy, different styles to match the tone of the book. My ali-time favorite is a black cat, in an African folk-art style done in enamel. I also like the magnetic ones that fold over the top of the page.
I do sometimes set a book aside with the bookmark still in it, then have to go searching afterwards to find it. I hate to lose one!
Honestly, I’m sadly utilitarian in this regard and tend to just use whatever piece of roughly bookmark-shaped piece of paper becomes handy after I lost the previous bookmark. for the last few weeks it’s been a ticket from a minor league ballgame I went to back in july…of course, I just mislaid that one. Oops.
Straw-wrappers, chopstick sleeves, receipts, ripped bits of envelopes, bills I have to remember to pay, bus tickets, other books, the dust jacket, appointment cards, shopping lists, a button, scraps of fabric, yarn…
