Hey, it’s October!
There are loads of read-a-longs, blogs dedicated to daily Halloween countdown events and plenty of fun stuff going on in the intertoobs.
Darcargo suggests Books that Haunt Us.
There are those books that, 25+ years on, we still think about…surprisingly often, and I suggest a re-read.
Is it The Riddle-Master of Hed by Patricia McKillip? is it The Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart? Is it A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle? Jhereg by Steven Brust? The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey?
Crime and Punishment? The Color Purple? The Three Muskateers? 1919? The Road from Coorain? Diary of a Young Girl? Tortilla Flat? The Mountains of Madness? Anne of Green Gables? The Neverending Story? The Sea Around Us?
Visit some old ghosts.
I’m going to go with The Phantom Tollbooth and The Westing Game.
I think i am finally going to read Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
that’s a very good one, though I think you’ll find it’s not as scary as you might expect.
as far as the book that haunts me…this is something I read a long time ago and has totally gotten into my brain and wouldn’t let go?
Maybe it’s time to dig out Lord of the Flies and see if it still resonates as much as it did when I was a high school freshman…
